Please welcome Lorraine Lewis
CHTC is like my second home, as I have been a
long time member and avid tennis player. I
actually worked at the club from 1976-1985
before moving on to my bodywork studies. So I
am very happy to put together two of my favorite
skills. As a tennis player since my teens, I
know well the stresses tennis can put on your
body.
I'm an LMBT (NC #213) - N.C. Licensed Massage &
Bodywork Therapist as well as Nationally
Certified in Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork. My
specialty certification is in the work of Milton
Trager, MD - a wonderful and very
effective modality for joint mobilization,
enhanced mobility, and profound relaxation. Trager
can improve performance as well as relieve
soreness, aches, and pains. Trager also brings
increased mental clarity and focus so it can
help you play "in the zone" more consistently.
I also teach simple movements that simulate the
tablework to help you stay loose and limber on
the court and in daily life.
In a Trager session you lie comfortably on a
massage table (either in loose fitting clothes
or in shorts or swimsuit) while the practitioner
initiates gentle rhythmic rocking, stretching,
and shaking type movements which reverberate
throughout your body. These motions remind the
body of it's natural state of fluidity and
elasticity and lull the body/mind into feeling
states of deep ease and peace. Full sessions
typically take 1 to 1and 1/2 hours, but shorter
sessions are available and very beneficial.
I'm glad to offer anywhere from 20 to 90 minute
sessions. Fee is $1.00 per minute for CHTC
members. If desired, I can combine Trager with
regular massage.
Articles on "Trager in Tennis" and "The Trager
Athlete" are available for you to enjoy. Just
contact me and I'll be glad to get you a copy.
My favorite athletic-oriented testimonial is
from a professional golfer client (now 70 years
old) who told me he played the best round of
golf he'd played in years after his Trager
session. That made me smile!
